In-person on 20 April 2022: Discussion of Targeted T-cell Immunity at the Stimson Center in D.C.
Dear Colleagues — it has been more than two years since COVID-19 was declared a pandemic. While one can hope we are through the initial rough spots, the endemic phase of the virus is going to persist potentially for an exceptionally long time into the future. We need to find solutions that are more targeted and focused.
One of these solutions is targeted T-cell immunity, where T-cells in humans can be biochemically instructed to go after specific protein sequences that are highly conserved, even in viral variants. This is a more tailored specific approach that has the added advantage of achieving longer-term immunity that is not “lost” due to mutations in the virus or short-term immunity which requires booster shots to overcome. The same approaches also may be employed for the immune systems of animals, relative to other biothreat concerns too.
To such an end — on Wed, 20 April, the non-partisan Stimson Center is hosting an interactive conversation on this novel approach — and how this new approach can address human-made and naturally occurring biothreats against human safety and food supply, while solving problems with existing solutions.
